Ranchita is located in the Montezuma Valley, and has seen gold mining, cattle raising, a United States Calvary remount station, and other activities, prior to its modern history.  Uncorroborated conventional wisdom is that the Ranchita Store, original business at this site, was founded in 1927.   Owner Otto Fabian applied for a post office for “Ranchito” in 1935, and the postmaster obliged, as Ranchita.  His wife Rowena became Postmaster.  The post office was canceled in 1985.  This is the only commercial property in the Montezuma Valley.  Only the real estate is for sale.  The current businesses are not included in the price.

 

 

 

Ranchita is located between Warner Springs and Borrego Springs, California, at an elevation of about 4000 feet.  Snowing off and on from Thanksgiving to Easter.  Current annual rainfall is 20 inches.  Although it is only 13 miles from Borrego, temperatures are generally 20 or more degrees cooler.
